Popcorn of Gold

If you don’t know, tonight is the night of the annual MTV Movie Awards. Airing in the UK tomorrow.

The MTV Movie Awards are the cool (I’m not taking myself serious) movie awards, where the films and characters you love, are at last, celebrated and victorious!

The MTV Movie Awards started way back in 1992, and in my opinion, have been a great stage for the most spontaneous memorable moments. Remember Will Ferrell's and Sacha Baron Cohen’s awkward moment and who-else would bring back Wayne & Garth and arrange a Breakfast Club reunion!

So in addition to awards like Best Villain and Best Kiss you get the funniest comedians at their best, lampooning your favourite films and actors. It’s no coincidence that the majority of the comedians who regularly appear year after year are part of the SNL alumni.

Which brings me nicely to this year's host.

Hosting duties this year will be taken care of by Mr Andy Samberg (“..say hello to your mother for me.”) Anyone who watches SNL or has a copy of Incredibad, knows he will rock the hizouse. In addition, knowing that he will open the show with Justin Timberlake has me salivating...Dick in a Box anyone.

This year, the all important MTV Generation award will be going to Ben Stiller. Past recipients have been Tom Cruise, Mike Myers, Adam Sandler and Jim Carey.

Ben Stiller has always made worthy contributions to the MTV Movie Awards over the years. He even came back from his honeymoon, 2 days early, to complete the Tom Crooze sketch and who can forget the hilarious skit with Jack Black and Robert Downey Jr.

So, way before Tom Cruise and Ben Stiller appeared in Tropic Thunder I give you Tom Crooze!

Oh what a night

At what point in your life do you realise that the years have past and you are not as young as you perceive to be…

Obviously this happens at different points in people’s lives and mine happened on Friday night.

Somewhere down the line I have turned into someone who prefers going to nice bars or restaurants for a night out. So going out to a club to “shake a leg” has been long over due.

There was a time I did go to clubs, dancing the night away and coming home when the sun is up and you can actually see people on their way to work, with you thanking god you don’t have a job that starts that early. Which then has you wondering what the hell they do for a living that they have to get up so early for… However this passes when the cravings for fatty foods set in.

So I thought this would be another night, just like the rest. As I entered the club, instantly I felt the eyes of these young things, with their cheap mascara, burning in my back. I could easily see that they were wondering what I was doing there. Even before we went in, the bouncer only asked my friend for ID as it was an over 21’s night...my ego had taken a hit before the night started!

Now with age comes experience and despite my appearance to these ankle bitters, I can still bust a move. So we found a spot, had my drink and started down the road of getting tipsy and twisting the night away. All in all I did have a good time and there were funny moments (like getting kicked out of the club), which are only hilarious when you are inebriated…

However, looking around I could not only see, but also smell the insecurity from these young girls and guys who were desperately trying to get noticed in the most unsuccessful ways... I wondered if I was ever like that and realised it was so long ago that I can’t remember (fyi..I’m joking I’m not that old!)

So on the bus home, after recalling the nights tales with my friend, I asked her if she noticed the blonde woman in the club, who clearly was dressed much younger than her age (can anyone say mutton dressed as lamb?). My friend said no and I proceeded to describe this woman and my fears of committing the same heinous crime that night. As all friends do, she laughed at how absurd this all was and said "of course not.." and re assured me that I look and dress like I’m somewhere in my late-mid twenties…

After I took the knife out of my back, I looked at her and said thanks…

(Clearly I need to ease off watching shows like The Hills and the City for a while and invest in some night cream and early nights)

Lets Laugh

I’ve been rattling around thinking of what to write about this week.

There have been a few things, but they required a little more work. Such as, ones perception of ones self vs. the perception of you by others and blog titles like Turn and Face the Strange (very Heroes I know) all with a sarcastic twist of course.

However, after lasts week’s blog was a on going debacle. I have decided that we all need a laugh once in a while and have kept it light…

So some of you may have seen these..they are so hilarious and entertaining and I could watch them over and over again. (and I have)

What am I rambling on about…Ellen’s Bathroom concert series. The concept is great and she’s brought it to the masses.

Who doesn’t sing in the bathroom? Wouldn’t you like to see famous singers singing in the bathroom? (insert rolling tumble weeds and silence) Just me then..

There are a few knocking around on You Tube.

So for your viewing pleasure I present you with my two fav’s, John Mayer and Pink… But Ellen is frickin funny in all of them!

Reel Summer

One of the main reasons I started this blog was so I could share my love of film, cinema and all that goes with it.

I don't love films like your average Joe Shmoe. I have an addiction... "Hi my name is leelee_uk and I am a major motion picture addict.." (lets just keep that between you & me!) I even studied film after school in the hopes of becoming a film journalist. The dream of getting paid to watch and write about films unfortunately, never materialised.

So this week is all about 2009 summer blockbusters.

I could write of memories seeing past summer movies and how I kind of miss the nostalgia of queuing up to get ticket's. (There is something about lining up that creates a buzz and excitement) Or how Jaws was the first summer blockbuster movie... ever!!

But I won't...

I love sitting in a cinema screen on a hot day, with the cool breeze of the a/c. You're good to go, with your bucket of popcorn, some of you may go for ice cream, and a massive drink (that will test your pee holding techniques later on) The lights go down, trailers start and you begin to lose yourself in the action packed thrill ride ahead.

This is when the summer starts.

With films like Adventureland, Little Ashes, Public Enemies and even Bruno. There is literally something for everyone this year.

But I'm here to talk about the studios big guns. The film's that over saturate the market place in every which way. With lavish over the top worldwide premiere's, where stars wear flower arrangements as hats....

This year has already kicked off in fine fashion with Wolverine. Also on the menu for you to feast on this summer are Star Trek, Angels & Demons, Harry Potter, Up, Ice Age 3, Land of the Lost and Terminator Salvation to name but a few.

For me, the ace in the hole is Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. You know it's a summer blockbuster when you have Micheal Bay blowing shit up, added with mad crazy special effects! This installment is so highly anticipated that critics have only seen a 10 minute clip to wet their appetites.

So I leave you with two great trailers to get you going and hope you have a great summer ahead!!
